Cheap Adjustable Dumbbells - Low Cost, High Quality Dumbbell Sets

!±8± Cheap Adjustable Dumbbells - Low Cost, High Quality Dumbbell Sets

When you think about buying a set of cheap adjustable dumbbells, there are a handful of on the market to choose from.

For this article, we'll use cheap in reference to price only, not quality. So that in mind, let's take a look at a few of the best, cheap dumbbell sets.

Jillian Michaels Adjustable Speed Dumbbell Set

The Jillian Michaels dumbbell set is one of the more popular sets for obvious reasons. Aesthetically they're pretty sharp, and they're real simple to use. They adjust by simply pulling up a pin-like mechanism and sliding it to the desired weight on each dumbbell. It's a 12.5 pound set, so it's a perfect starter set for the person who is not used to working out with dumbbells, like a teen or stay at home mom.

They also come in a 25 pound version which are sold individually. The Jillian Michaels dumbbells come with a plastic base which makes storage easy as you can simply slide them into the closet or in the corner.

25 Pound Adjustable Dumbbell Set by XMark Fitness

Next, in this category of cheap adjustable dumbbells, are XMark Fitness dumbbells. While XMark Fitness adjustable dumbbells don't have the name recognition of Jillian Michaeals, or even BowFlex, they're definitely a player in this category.

The weight range on this set is 5 to 25 pounds, and like the other adjustable weight dumbbells, you adjust the weight with a knob by pulling it up, and moving it to weight you'd like to use. In researching this set, safe and sturdy are a couple points that came up a few times. Since they're built solid, you don't have to worry about them falling apart on you, and you don't have to worry about the weights falling off while you're using them.

Finally, as with most dumbbells that adjust, they store easily and don't take up much space.

40 Pound Dumbbell Set

One final set of cheap adjustable dumbbells would be the Cap Barbell 40-Pound Dumbbell Set. The one caveat with this set is that it's not "adjustable" in terms of a pin type system, or a dial type system. It's a smaller traditional dumbbell set. Since this is more traditional set, the weights are adjusted by unscrewing the nut that keeps the weights on the bar, adding or removing weight, then screwing the nut back on.

They're a 40 pound set, so they're an ideal starter set for someone just getting into working out. Reason being is that there is enough weight to build a base as far as getting used to working out, and learning exercises, and since they're pretty inexpensive, they won't set you back much.

Ultimately the adjustable dumbbell set you choose will come down to your fitness/strength level and budget.

How Treadmill Dimensions Can Limit Your Workout

!±8± How Treadmill Dimensions Can Limit Your Workout

Treadmill dimensions are often overlooked when people buy a treadmill. In a lot of cases, there just isn't enough room to buy the biggest and best, so you have to be sure you don't limit yourself with your treadmill dimensions. In most cases the treadmill will fit into the spare room or the basement of a single family home but a townhouse or condo living poses other space issues. This is when the dimensions of the machine should be on the top of your list.

The key is to find a good quality treadmill that doesn't inhibit your stride while in use and can be easily stored away to minimize clutter in that space. The best way to find both in one treadmill is to look into buying a folding treadmill or portable treadmill. Although there seems to be a stigma associated with folding treadmills, there are many brands that can accomodate a large stride, good functionality, great storage and even some that are esthetically pleasing.

Folding Treadmills are great for apartment and condo living and they do have some great products out there but keep in mind that some may compromise the length of track to maximize storage options. As mentioned earlier, a short track can prohibit you from running in full stride which will hurt your form and ultimately, your workout. Make sure your stride is full and comfortable so the most important aspect of of your treadmill training is covered.

When shopping for a new treadmill, make sure that you check out the length, height and width of the track when in running mode and in storage mode. Make sure you have some idea of where you plan to workout and where you plan to store it. Then you can make an educated decision with the dimensions you get. Some places to consider for storage are in a closet, under your bed, behind a door etc.

Once you have your workout and storage locations picked out, your treadmill shopping will get easier, you'll know what treadmill dimensions to look for and you'll be assured that your form won't be compromised allowing you a full and satisfying workout.

A Regular Guy's Thoughts and Opinions on the Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells

!±8± A Regular Guy's Thoughts and Opinions on the Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells

For anyone out there considering purchasing this equipment but not sure it's the right fit, this short critique should give you a good, honest insight on the pros and cons of Bowflex's SelectTech Dumbbells.

Note: this is my personal opinion on this product, I am not, nor have I ever been paid by Bowflex (let them know I wouldn't mind it though). I am just an average guy trying to stay in shape - probably just like you. I hope you'll find this article helpful.

Pros:

o Transition between one weight and another is relatively quick and easy (assuming you get the dials to line up right - see Cons)

o The rubberized hand grips conform to the hand well. They're much more comfortable then many dumbbells I've used at the gym

o Metallic stand/holder with rollers is a nice addition that allows you to conveniently store and move the dumbbells. You can even lock the rollers into place so the stand won't slide on you. It's an additional cost but well worth the money.

o No assembly required. I took them out of the box and started using them immediately.

o The dumbbells take a little getting used to, but most people will find it to be a short, easy learning curve.

o The dumbbells feel balanced, secure and stable. The weight plates aren't bouncing around or shifting from side to side, which could be dangerous. If you've ever lifted a dumbbell or barbell without firmly securing the weight plates with collars, you'll know what I am talking about.

o They don't require a huge amount of space.

o Call me crazy, but I like the clicking sound when you adjust the weights.

Cons:

o The dumbbells can be a little temperamental: if you don't click the dial exactly into place when adjusting the weight on the dumbbells (so it catches), you can't remove them off of the block. It's a good safety feature but it's annoying when you think you've selected 40

o I am not sure how they would have gotten around it, but you have to adjust the same weight on both sides of the dumbbell every time you switch to a new weight. For example, if you are going from a 25 lb to a 40 lb dumbbell, you have to adjust each side of the dumbbell to get 40 lbs - that's making 2 adjustments per dumbbell, 4 if you're using both.

o The weights are a little bulky in size compared to professional gym quality dumbbells of the same weight. My fiancé, who is petite refused to use them because they were too bulky and unwieldy.

o The weights aren't rubberized like some of the professional gym quality dumbbells - this probably would make them a little more durable. Personally I've never broken one of these in a couple of years but I take pretty good care of them. I a not entirely certain how durable these are, for several hundred dollars I'd rather not find out.

o Expensive for some budgets.

Bottom Line:

I'd give the Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells a green light - I would recommend them. They feel good to use, they look good and they do work well.

Sure they aren't perfect but if you're looking to have a complete weight set in the corner of your bedroom rather than filling up the entire garage, this might be a good option for you. The price tag for some might be a little high at a few hundred dollars. I bought mine on an online auction and saved some money. For the few hundred dollars I've spent on them, I've more than got my money's worth.
